Information for Parents

RealUni is a new website that has been written by Uni students who realise that each H.E. institution is very different and that each offers different lifestyles, opportunities and future prospects for its students.

Having been there and done that, we realise that sixth formers preconceptions of University are often wrong and that this can lead to them making the wrong decisions about where to go and what to study.

WHAT WE TRY TO DO:

Our site aims to inform and educate students about:

1) The difficulties of the UCAS application process
2) The differences between each University
3) The differences between courses of the same name at different Uni's
4) Starting University and how to make the most of it.

HOW WE ACHIEVE THIS:

We do this in several ways:

Firstly, we have an alternative prospectus where any university students can give full opinions of their course and university. Reviews are added every day and can be modified by the author at any time after submission. They are unmoderated, frank views of uni life. You cannot find this feature anywhere else. Published guides are out of date as soon as they leave the press.

Secondly, we have pages of advice and information written by undergraduates and recent graduates. This is written in a "big brother" style and aims to be as straight forward as possible. This is the most comprehensive and free source of student-written information on this topic on the internet.

Thirdly, we have forums and message boards where students can leave questions and others can post replies. RealUni is building a community of students of an unparralled scale.

Fourth, RealUni gives A-Level students the ability to e-mail Uni students and ask direct questions. The RealUni Team (approx. 10 students) are available for questioning on any topic, but we also have around another 30 students at different universities who can answer questions specific to their institution. This unbiased advice is not available anywhere else.

Fifth, RealUni allows universities to post factual information about their institution on their profile page. This helps students learn about the nature of that institution.

Sixth, RealUni posts photos of institutions wherever possible. This cannot be found in any other Univerity Guide.

MORE INFORMATION:

Please read the student sections of the website - you might find them quite interesting. Don't worry - they're not crude or unsuitable for adult eyes!!! Please use the links on the left to guide yourself around.

For proper advice aimed at parents, we recommend that you look at UniversityOptions.co.uk at www.universityoptions.co.uk. This is a service run by University of Manchester and UMIST careers service.

Please Contact Us if there are any questions or if you have any suggestions for what you would like us to cover in this section.

Thank you.
