RealUni is a unique portal between A-Level students aged 16-18 and university students, the majority of which are aged 18-21. It is a simple interface through which students in further education can learn from a growing network of older university undergraduates.
The dynamic (automatically updating) website provides free advice on the UCAS application process, builds profiles of each institution and allows sixth form students to contact undergraduates with any questions they may have. RealUni fills a niche in that it is the only university guide to publish full student opinions of H.E. institutions and courses.
THE ALTERNATIVE PROSPECTUS:
RealUni contains the UK's first alternative prospectus to allow any university student to upload their opinion of their course and university. In the 5 weeks over Easter, we received 160 opinions covering 50 universities, and are set to profile all remaining institutions over the summer.
HOW DOES THAT HELP YOU?
In general, the reviews from students are very positive. This is likely to mean there are many more students looking hard at your university this autumn.
However, the structure of the profile page is changing. Within a few weeks, you will be able to add factual information regarding your university to your university's profile page. This information can be added under a range of catagories, such as accomodation, facilities, student population etc. You can also upload photos of your institution.
WHY SHOULD I BOTHER?
It is true that information about your university can be found in all other university guides.
But RealUni is different. This time, you write your own profile. You supply your own photographs. There's also no strict word limit like published guides.
Need more convincing? One of the unique features of RealUni is that once you have submitted this information, you can edit it at any time through our login system. Therefore the information you supply can be altered come UCAS Extra, Clearing, the next UCAS cycle, whatever...
IS IT WORTHWHILE?
RealUni offers you the chance to promote your university to a large number of students, at a low cost - with some features being completely free.
Due to the free and easily accessible nature of the information, RealUni is predicting between 35,000 and 50,000 hits from students in the next academic year (following the standard education calendar of 1 September 2003 to 31 August 2004). Our predicted hit rate is further increased due to us being a trusted peer group service.
